When Scott woke up, I think he could sense my stress and immediately suggested HE do the cleaning while I catch up on some work. (What a good guy!) So that was the plan. Throughout the morning I was getting updates from the Schmidts who's plane out of GR was delayed. Even so the airline insisted they would make the connecting flight in Philadelphia. We watched as their flight crossed the upper north east with a pretty good feel they would miss their connecting flight. But they ran... oh they ran... and arrived at their gate just 2 minutes late for the departing flight.
So the airline booked them on another flight from Philadelphia with one more stop in Charlotte. Estimated arrival time was around 5:00 pm. So Scott and I finished our errands and took the kids out for lunch.
Soon we got another text saying their was an issue with their second flight... we watched again as the minutes ticked by and once they were finally in air, realized that once again, they might not make it. But there was a chance! I hadn't heard from them as I watched their next flight depart the gate. Scott assured me it meant they had ran right to their flight and made it. In actuality, their previous flight was waiting on the tarmac for a free gate to debark the plane. Grr. So they were rebooked on a later flight from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach, arriving around 7:30 pm.
We ordered pizza for the kids and left them home alone as we drove to the airport to collect them.
Normally this kind of day would be chalked up as a minor nconvenience for the benefits of the modern air travel. However, when they were only going to be here for 48 hours, those extra 6 hours in the airport really cut into our plans :) They were great sports about the whole thing and settled right in when they arrived after supper time.
Not long after they arrived, Sammy asked Todd which of the Holy Bibles he'd be using for the ceremony. She told him if he would like, that he could use her Bible... its pink and purple. Of course! She ran to get it and then proceeded to ask which verses he intended to use... they read through them and Sammy gave her final approval. It was very sweet.
We stayed up laughing and talking into the early hours. Will be tired tomorrow but I wouldn't change a thing.
