I had a 9:00 am Zoom meeting so we were up earlier than usual and the kids headed to breakfast alone. Once my meeting wrapped up, we got packed up and were on the road by 10:30am. Tyler wanted to try his hand at driving so I took over as navigator
At this point, the story may vary depending on who you were speaking to. But the short is, we took a wrong turn and then the car determined we wouldn’t have enough battery to leave the city so had us turn completely around and backtrack past the hotel that we started from.
We did find a charger at a grocery store on the outskirts of town but unfortunately it was in the opposite direction of where we needed to be. But it’s a road trip and what else do we have to do but explore.
We grabbed some groceries to refill our stash and then got back underway. Here’s another gap in the story depending on who you speak with… but let’s just say we took a wrong turn and ended up on a toll road that didn’t have exits for 15-20 miles. Therefore we had to postpone lunch until 2:00 pm and we were all super hungry.
We grabbed lunch at Wendy’s and then got back on the road. Tyler had a headache so we switched and I took over for the rest of the drive to NYC.
Overall it was a pleasant drive but we did hit stop-and-go traffic several times in New Hampshire and of course as we approached the city. We came down the island of Manhattan on the far west side which seemed really smooth considering it was now middle of rush hour. We by the Intercontinental which was all guarded by Secret Service and black SUVs, then fought the pedestrian traffic while crossing Times Square and up a block to our hotel.
It was 4:45p when we were settling into our room. This will be home for the next 5 nights.
As soon as our luggage arrived, we headed out to see Time Square and get dinner. This is Sammy and my third trip to NYC (always in this hotel) so we are somewhat familiar but for Tyler it was brand new and he was surprised by the overwhelming lights and advertisements and people. We stopped by Olive Garden in Times Square and had a good meal. Then we made our way back to our hotel room as Tyler has to work.
Sammy and I hit the Disney Store to look around, then grabbed some things from Walgreens and hung out at Starbucks to give Tyler some time. This location will close at 10p and then we’ll head back to the room while Tyler wraps up.
It was a great day on the road but I’m so glad to be here! Grateful for kids who are flexible and can have fun even when things don't go as planned.
