Day 4 - US History on the Freedom Trail

The city of Boston plays a key role in the American Revolution.  The city has done an excellent job of not only preserving but also highlighting the historical sites of the city along the Freedom Trail.  An organized path throughout the city that follows a red brick line in the sidewalk leading guests to 16 historical stops along the way including the home of Paul Revere, the site of the Boston Massacre, the meeting place of the First Continental Congress and the Battle of Bunker Hill.

There are lots of ways to experience the Freedom trail (bus, walking guide, bike, etc) but we decided to do it on our own with an audio tour.

We started off this morning with breakfast in the hotel lobby then headed out to grab an Uber to the starting point - Boston Common.

It was on this drive that I realized just what it takes to be an Uber driver in Boston.  The traffic is nuts, with quick merges, fast exits and narrow roads.  I am super impressed but it also was a great reminder that we'll keep the car parked and rely on subways and cabs for the remainder of our stay.

I won't cover every stop along the Freedom Trail but instead will share some pics.

Along the way, we took a break and grabbed lunch at Shake Shack.

After 12 stops, the route brought us close by our hotel, so we decided to stop for a rest.  After an hour or two with our feet up and A/C on, we grabbed another Uber to head to the Boston Tea Party Museum and Ships.  This was a great stop - we all enjoyed it.  It was interactive and fun and encouraged guests to take on the identity of an actual participant of the Boston Tea Party.

After we finished, we crossed the river and had a fabulous steak dinner at Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse.  It was an excellent meal with Waygu Fillet Mignon and shared sides.  Afterwards we decided to walk for a bit.  We eventually found a Starbucks for a coffee and bathroom break and then Ubered the rest of the way home.

Tyler had to work tonight so he got started soon after we got in and Sammy put together a Lego set that we brought along.  I spent some time on church work and then laid down to ease a headache.

It was a fabulous day yet again!  Perfect weather and lots of steps!
